David Driker at TJMaxx, Client In The SpotlightClient
In The Spotlight

David Driker came to Kadima in 1990 as a 26 year old. At 22 he had begun hearing echoes and having other symptoms of schizophrenia. For a while he was with Adult Learning Systems with a part-time job delivering Meals on Wheels to Royal Oak Senior citizens. But then he and his father heard about Kadima from the Jewish News.

Through Kadima, David has a focus worker who visits daily, "helping me prepare meals, budget, and maintain my apartment." He especially enjoys Breakfast Club, which is held every Wednesday morning at a local restaurant, where clients have breakfast, schmooz and read the paper. He also likes the NCJW Project Friendship for Kadima Sunday morning brunch/activity program. Last week at the bowling party David shot pool, for as a youngster he received a trophy from Huntington Woods Parks & Rec. He has made friends, lives independently, and his support services enable him to maintain a strong work history. David also makes time to participate in Kadima's Jewish holiday celebrations, such as building the sukkah. His hobbies are walking and spending time at the JCC Health Club. Today David's life is full. "I have structure, activities and good advice from people around me."

In his soft-spoken way, David performs as a dedicated and reliable worker on the job. Though it is not easy, "Because of my illness," he perseveres. He recently received the TJMaxx Employee Good Service Award for 5 years of service there.

Kudos, David.
